Doctor Bart & Operation Smile
For doctor Bart, his work goes beyond achieving beautiful results in the clinic. As a physician, he feels a deep responsibility to use his knowledge and skills for people who do not have access to basic medical care.
That is why he has been actively involved with Operation Smile for many years an international organisation that helps children with cleft lip and palate achieve a functional smile and a healthier life.
Why doctor Bart is committed to this cause
For Bart, his work with Operation Smile is about more than surgery alone.
It is the direct contact with the children, the gratitude of their families, and the realisation of how much impact a single operation can have on someone’s future that continues to move him deeply.
While in the Netherlands a cleft condition is often treated within a few months, in some countries children live for years with a condition that affects their ability to eat, speak and engage socially.
“When you see what one operation means for a child and an entire family, you immediately understand why you do this.” — doctor Bart
Voluntary missions, year after year
At least once a year, Bart travels for two weeks to countries where specialised medical care is not readily available. He works entirely on a voluntary basis alongside international and local medical teams. In a short period of time, hundreds of children are often treated, each one with care, attention and dedication.
These missions are intense, but also deeply fulfilling. For Bart, they are an essential part of his work as both a doctor and a human being.

€10,- per patiënt: making a difference together
Bart also contributes to the mission of Operation Smile in the Netherlands. For every patient treated at Doctor Bart Clinic, he donates €10 to Operation Smile.
In this way, you as a client automatically help give children around the world a new chance at a healthier future.
